Apple tree grafting and pruning workshops

Meet at Brewery House, High Street, Ketton PE9 3TA
(Next to Northwick Arms)

The two workshops will combine the basic theories of grafting and pruning, followed by a series of practical demonstrations and plenty of hands on practice. Tea and coffee will be provided. Lunch can also be purchased in the pub.

Led by: Gareth Powell, Denis Smith and Adam Cade

 How do the trees grow?
 What's the objectives?
 What are best tools, and how to use them safely?
 What are the best techniques?
 Where and when to start?
 What books, guides and online advice, videos are available?

Apple Tree Grafting Workshop
10 am – 12 midday

Come and learn how to graft and prune fruit trees with local experts who will lead this two-hour workshop designed for the novice propagator. Skill at grafting is the true mark of gardening expertise, but it’s also easy to learn and fun to do. In this hands-on workshop you will graft and take home a low-maintenance fruit tree that can produce fruit organically without harmful spraying. You will also find out how to perpetuate that perfect fruit tree.

What to bring: Warm, waterproof clothing. If possible bring only your thin-bladed pocket knife and a pair of hand pruners. Leave with your own grafted apple tree.

£15 including at least one grafted tree

Apple Trees Pruning Workshop
2 pm – 4 pm

Pruning is an essential part of the maintenance of your fruit tree, but it is also a bewildering subject! This two hour workshop will show you how to prune and care for your fruit trees to ensure that they remain healthy and yield maximum crops. It will particularly focus on restoring old local varieties of fruit tree.

What to bring: Warm, waterproof clothing. If possible bring pruning tools, loppers, pruning saws.
