Guys and Dolls

Wednesday, April 11th

Event Summary

Rutland Musical Theatre is set to dazzle local residents with its production of Guys and Dolls in Uppingham this April, led by local director Tom Johnson, who is returning after directing the successful production of Sweeney Todd last year.

This all-time favourite romantic musical was a huge Broadway and West End hit as well as a successful 1964 film starring Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons. A cast of around 40 has been busy rehearsing twice a week since October under the watchful eye of the production team – Tom Johnson (director), Jane Stevens (musical director) and Nicola Sandall (choreographer).

The award winning musical tells the story of Sky Masterson (Dan Atkinson) and Nathan Detroit (Mark Thomas), where every day is an opportunity to hustle, every dispute can be settled with a roll of the dice and every dime is theirs for the taking. They live by their wits and the skin of their teeth. Lady Luck is on their side – until one night they both take a chance on love…

This spectacular show features well known hits such as ‘Luck be a Lady’ and ’Sit Down you’re Rockin’ the Boat.
RMT chair, Louis Brandt, said “We are thrilled to be able to bring this fabulous production to Uppingham this spring. The cast has been working very hard to put on an exciting and memorable production.”
