Bid to renovate Braunston River Gwash weir

Campaigners want to dredge this section of the river and build up the walls of the weir

There are calls for a 19th century weir in Braunston to be restored - to help tackle fires in the area.

The community and the Welland River Trust are trying to get funding for the pond to be dredged and for its walls to be improved so it can hold more water.

They want to turn the section of the River Gwash into an attraction, while also making sure the fire service can use it to fight thatch fires.

The work is estimated to cost around £3,000.

Their application is open for voting at the Aviva Community Fund.
