MEP refuses to step down

Roger Helmer wants re-assurances on his replacement

A stand-off between a Stamford and Rutland MEP and the Conservative Central Office continues.

Tory Roger Helmer was due to retire last month but remains in place because he wants confirmation on who will replace him.

But party bosses won't say why they have concerns with next in line Rupert Matthews until he stands down.
