Back to reality!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Wow, 2018 already. We still haven't gone up to live in space or drive around in flying cars and we still haven't guessed the Mystery Voice! It's had Stamford and Rutland stumped for the last how many weeks, I've lost count! So, as we really want to give this £500 away we're giving you the opportunity to play online and choose from 3 answers. Have a look on our Mystery Voice page, pick the correct answer and you'll be put in the draw to win £500. Winner announced next Friday morning.

PERSANI POWER - I think if Rob Persani was Prime Minister of Great Britain he'd introduce a law preventing us from taking down our Christmas decorations until the Twelfth Night as he was very protective over our decorations at Rutland HQ. It's been the debate of the office all this week! We weren't allowed to touch them until Friday 5th and now our office and studios look quite bare! To be honest once we've had the New Year I'm happy to take down my decs from the 2nd but ended up keeping them around until the 5th this year to make the most of them and also because I couldn't be bothered to get the boxes out. Let us know what you think on our Weekend Survey. (Elaine took one for the team and started taking them down!)

TAKE THE CAKE - First cake delivery of 2018 went to Elaine and Harriet from Bradshaw Taylors in Oakham. Found it quite a challenge to actually find the building and in the end was let in through a secret passage way (staff only entrance) so I hope you enjoy the cakes from Javawocky at Coppergate in Uppingham. Head to the Take The Cake page to add your name to my list.

MORE CAKE - Also took on my first challenge of 2018 which was cake decorating with Naomi and Chloe from Rutland Cake Company in Oakham. Tell you what, it's a lot harder than it looks. Trying to get that smooth crumb coat; not getting any crumbs in the buttercream and even piping equally, it takes patience and precision. I think it turned out quite in the end though, looks a bit Halloweenish but still yummy and that's the most important part of cake. So thanks to Naomi Morgan for letting me loose in her kitchen! You can hear it back in our weekly podcast on the website and check out the photos in my Leave It To Lydia album. If you need a hand with anything, let me know studio@rutlandradio.co.uk and Leave It To Lydia!

NEW YEAR NEW YOU? - There's always a pressure to try and reinvent yourself each year. If you're happy then don't bother, but it is a good way to try and improve on yourself. After eating a ridiculous amount of cheese and chocolate over Christmas and feeling like the caterpillar from A Bug's Life, I decided I'm going to join an exercise club. I'm not great at motivating myself to exercise but I'd like to keep my heart healthy so I'm actually going to enquire about a boxercise class this weekend. Little steps! Imagine me boxing though? I'm about 5ft 3, not very scary looking so I'm hoping I love it and it'll add an element of surprise to my persona. Unless you're reading this and now you know!
