Local Superstars: singers, teachers and donations

MONDAY 26TH JUNE

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY NAN - I threw her a party at my house on Sunday and it was her first time in the area. Nan thought it was a very pretty area, stopped off for a drink in Stamford. She loves pigs and I couldn't find a piggy cake anywhere so I improvised.

FESTIVAL OF FLOATS - Such a nice day in Stamford, lots of people lined the streets to watch the parade pass by. There was a decent turn out of floats this year and they were all so good. So smiley and happy! Of course we were in the parade. Elaine (Hi Elaine! from our advert) drove the Rutland Radio-mobile and Honor and I gave out flags. Kept me fit running around giving all those flags away! Find all the pics in our photo album http://www.rutlandradio.co.uk/events/photos/stamford-festival-of-floats/

TUESDAY 27TH

BIG NEWS CAR PARKING CHARGES - Brace yourselves! If you haven't heard already...car parking charges will be a flat rate of 80p per hour in Oakham and Uppingham. Not good news for Uppingham seeing as it costs about 30p to park for an hour there.

WEDNESDAY 28TH

OAKHAM FESTIVAL - Has kicked off in Oakham, of course with lots of events and activities happening across the town. At least there's something positive going on, taking our minds off all the road works and future work. Sorry I've just reminded you again.

LOCAL SPOTLIGHT - Dean shines the spotlight on a local artist on Saturdays at 1:30pm and this week it's Tin Pigeon's new track Wild. I'm going to do a shine of the spotlight as well on a girl called Tabi from Rippingale. She's only 14 years old (even though she's super tall!) and has auditioned on The Voice Kids so watch out for her on Saturday's episode. She'll be worth watching, I saw her at an open mic night in Stamford and she has an effortlessly gorgeous voice. Very mature. Hear my chat with her on the weekly podcast.

PADDINGTON - Found out Michael Bond, creator of Paddington Bear and Parsley the Lion had passed away aged 91. Got a little arty in the studio in his memory.

THURSDAY 29TH

TAKE THE CAKE - Quite a sad Take the Cake this week as I went to Rutland County College. After 20 years of serving students across the county the college is shutting resulting in redundancies. I hoped the cake cheered some of the staff up even if it was just for a little while.

CAT - There's a really cute cat on my estate but it has a habit of climbing in my windows. It's sneaked in the back before and the other day I was sitting on the sofa, looked up to the window and there was a cat sneaking in. I don't even hear it as it is so quite. I don't mind it popping round to say hello but I don't want my neighbours to one day see it in the house and think I've cat napped it!

THE SUMMER EVENT - Out of Royal Ascot, Wimbledon, Glastonbury, England Cricket Test Series and The Edinburgh Festival, which is THE summer event. That's what we're asking you on our weekend survey. I think Glastonbury is major, I'd love to go one year as well as Royal Ascot. I'd love getting all dolled up. But then Wimbledon, is huge as well! I'm not even a tennis fan but I'll happily watch a bit of Wimbledon. I can't choose.

FRIDAY 30TH (How is it the end of June already?)

FOOD BANK - They were at Tesco in Oakham holding a collection day as they needed some supplies to top up the bank. Lots of customers helped out and they want to say a huge thank you! When we look at Stamford and Rutland we automatically think it's an affluent area. Most of it is, but there are those that fall into crisis and need the help of the food bank. If you ever want to donate you can at the bank in Oakham on Melton Road, behind our studios and also at Uppingham Parish Church.

LOVE ISLAND - I've become so addicted to Love Island that I dreamt Montana had a nail salon and I went there to get my nails done. Woke up before I got to choose the nail polish colour. It's on every night apart from Saturday and even though it's "trash tv" I absolutely love it. There's also been a major twist this week, the islanders have been split up into two villas (the guys new villa Casa Amor looks the nicest) and new islanders have been put in. Now there's 20 of them to keep up with!

SATURDAY 1ST JULY

FLYING VISIT - The Flying Scotsman stopped in Stamford this morning! Rob was down there on the plaform ready to record the action and managed to speak to him live from the station. I think it's the first time it's stopped in Stamford to pick up passengers. It's going all the way up to York then back down to London. The studio is based right next to the train line and there is a window looking out onto it. Although some how I managed to miss it puff past!

WEEKEND - Off to see Much Ado About Nothing by Stamford Shakespeare Company tonight at Tolthorpe Hall. Hoping the weather stays dry to I can have a picnic!
