Spooking, Ploughing, Winning & Flying Through Oakham

AND I WOULD WALK 500 MILES... maybe not 500, more like 26 but Caroline Stafford from Oakham is hoping to run it! She's been shortlisted for the Big Marathon Challenge 2018 has asked nicely for you to vote for her so she can take on the Manchester Marathon. She's had a tough few years with fertility treatment and as it is Fertility Awareness Week has been sharing her story. You can catch the interview in the podcast and vote for Caroline at http://womensrunninguk.co.uk/inspiration/bmc-caroline-stafford/ If she gets to do the marathon Caroline wants to raise money for Fertility Network UK -http://fertilitynetworkuk.org

WILDS LODGE - Congrats to The Nurture Group at Wilds Lodge for gaining a Quality Mark Award! Cherida Gibson started the group up 2 years ago having a positive impact on the children.

HAPPY PLOUGHING - I popped along to The Rutland Ploughing Match, basically a big field at Ingthorpe Farm with lots of tractors and ploughing machinery doing what they do best. PLOUGHING! There were even some horses showing us how it was done in the olden days. Just want to give a little appreciation to my Fiat 500 that managed to get through the mud (I thought I was going to get stuck) and it's now incredibly dirty. Hand me the bucket and sponge *sigh*

TAKE THE CAKE - Alice and Robin at Uppingham Post Office got the Javawocky at Coppergate Uppingham cakes this week! If you want some then let me know...

SOMETHING WORSE THAN SNEEZING WHILST DRIVING  - Having an eyelash in your eye, what a nightmare! I was driving around Oakham with one eye.

SPOOKY STAMFORD - I usually dislike Halloween but this year I decided to cut the scrooge-ness and get to it by taking my show out and about. I was live at the Stamford Recreation Ground with Pumpkin Persani and The Party Lady doing free face painting to kick off Hallow's Eve. Also had a few ghost stories from Mark Murtagh at Stamford Town Hall that you can find in our podcast. Thanks for popping along to see us and I hope you had the spookiest of evenings.

PUMPKIN CHALLENGE - Decide to pick my own pumpkin this year and luckily I managed to get a cute little one. I went a bit too late so pretty much all the pumpkins had gone mouldy so if you want to go next year make sure you go earlier in the month to get your perfect pumpkin. I went to get one for the pumpkin carving Friday Challenge, me v Rob Persani. Despite my best efforts to carve 'spooky pals' (a cat with a witch's hat, a bat, a ghost and a pumpkin) I was beaten once again! Although Rob's pumpkin was very snazzy, he carved a face and painted it green and sparkly purple. So I need to up my game for the next challenge... which is to take a selfie.

ART IN LYDDINGTON - The exhibition is on display in St Andrew's Church until Sunday and you can vote for your favourite to win the People's Choice Award and £100 of art supplies. Thanks to Helen Chad for including us in her painting of the Uppingham Feast.

WISH LINE - Next time you pop to Tesco in Oakham have a snoop at the wish line in the foyer for Dementia UK. There's some wishes on there that need granting by you the new fairy godmother/godfather of Rutland if you would like to help. Also if you or someone you know deserves a little treat then there's couple of free spaces left to hang up the wish.

FLYING THROUGH OAKHAM - I finally caught a glimpse of the Flying Scotsman zooming through Oakham on Saturday morning. I had missed it the last few times so made sure i got a space on the bridge. I've put a video up on our social media if you missed it!
