Farming Programme

Every Sunday morning at 7am Sally Elkington presents the Rutland Radio half hour Farming Programme.

 As a Farmers wife Sally has an awareness of countryside matters and aims to cover topics in the programme that reflect what the country’s leading industry is about.

A team of experts regularly add their advice on Agronomy, Grain Prices, Sugar Beet and a variety of other topical issues.

 

The Grain Team are from

Nigel Stephenson, Chris Spratt, Adrian Morrel.

Nigel started in the cereal industry in 1976, working for Pauls & Sandars based in Grantham, where he worked on malting barley procurement until 1985. He then moved to Lingrain based in Boston where he moved over into feed grain trading, moving to the export department in 1994. Lingrain merged to become Centaur in 2001 & Nigel became head of the export department., specialising in inter EU feed grains trading.

 

 

The Agronomy expert is Sean Sparling from Sparling Agronomy Service Ltd

Sean is an award winning independent agronomist from a Lincolnshire farming family, who looks after over 21,000 acres of farmland across the county. He regularly contributes technical articles for the national farming press and is a passionate supporter of UK agriculture, a lifelong ornithologist, entomologist and botanist. He also after dinner speaks across the length and breadth of the country on the myths and facts of farming.


D

avid Dunning is Agricultural Business Manager from British Sugar Newark Factory. David gives regular updates through the growing season and during the Beet Campaign. The factory at Newark buys from 800 growers throughout Lincolnshire, Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire.


The mix of news and feature pieces aims to attract not just a farming audience but non-farming listeners too. Highlighting that more and more people are becoming interested in where their food comes from and how it is produced.
