Rutland man challenges assisted dying laws

Phil Newby is terminally ill and says current laws are against his human rights

A Rutland man's hoping to find out soon if his call for a change to the assisted dying law will go to a full court review.

High Court Judges last week heard a permission case, brought by Phil Newby, who's terminally ill and suffers from motor neurone disease.  He claims the current law is against his human rights.

The Judges are now considering whether to agree to the 49 year olds plea for a more detailed examination of evidence...with a ruling due, early next month.

Assisted dying is currently illegal in the country.
