Stamford celebrates its "independence"

Special anthem will be sung

A special anthem will be performed for the first time at Stamford's All Saints Church this afternoon, commissioned to remember the granting of the Town's Charter back in 1461.

It gave decision making powers to the town taking them away from the then Sheriff.

At this afternoon's Choral Evensong the Anthem "Since Thou Alone Art King of Kings” will be sung.

It's from a translation of the inscription on a memorial brass in the church, which dates back to the 14-hundreds.
