Stamford man conned out of life savings

70 year old victim was contacted by phone

A Stamford man's been conned out of his life savings, after falling for a 'double scam' costing him over 20 thousand pounds.

The 70-year-old victim was targeted by fraudsters at the end of last year where they pretended to be from 2 different companies in separate phone calls.

The first claimed to be from BT, and said the man had run up a higher than normal phone bill, but was entitled to a 'special discount.'

The victim became sceptical and went to the bank, but on the way, received another bogus call from someone claiming to work for the National Crime Agency - who convinced him to send over the cash.
