BURGHLEY - What an event! Burghley Horse Trials, I do love it (apart from the traffic issues in Stamford) I think it's a great event especially for local produce to get out there on the food walk. I managed to have a go on the Musto Mare, a simulator that takes you round last year's course as if you were riding a horse, even William Fox-Pitt had a go. But I don't think I will be competing at Burghley anytime soon with 4/12 fences cleared.
RYHALL GALA - My first Ryhall Gala and it was a lovely afternoon despite the shower towards the end of the afternoon. JHH Dance had a boogie, Steve Green Band performing, falconry show had birds swooping into the crowd and the army cadets showed off their drills including the leopard crawl (famous shuffle across the floor on your elbows and knees.) Who does it best? Of course Preston the Panther, being a big cat he demonstrated the leopard crawl to everyone!
CAKES FOR GRANDADS - At the weekend 12 year old Archie Foster put on a Macmillan Coffee Morning at Edith Weston Village Shop in memory of his two grandads. If you have a coffee morning coming up on the official date 29th then please let us know so we can pop along and see you and sneak a cake or two!
TAKE THE CAKE - Emma Houston from RAF Wittering got the yummy cakes from Javawocky at Coppergate in Uppingham this week, if you want cake head to http://www.rutlandradio.co.uk/features/take-the-cake1/
BIG CLEAN - Something that really annoys me is a litter bug. Put your rubbish in the bin, not the floor! So I'm getting involved in South Kesteven District Council's BIG Clean! 50 tonnes of waste has been collected in 3 weeks around South Kesteven so far. If you want to join me and get involved www.southkesteven.gov.uk and click on big clean!
CATERING IN THE EXTREMES - I popped along to RAF Wittering to meet the 3 Mobile Catering Squadron trainees. (The can cook up an amazing beef curry!) 3MC Squadron provide catering and accommodation management of a deployed operating base no matter where it is in the world. So if the force need food and water in the middle of the desert then 3 Mobile Catering Squadron have to provide! Obviously a happy tummy means the air men and air women have the energy, satisfaction and will power to power on through difficult times and they also have to set up the tents and equipment so that they can dine.
TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE? - Bake Off viewers, what's your take on Steve? (The guy who made that life like BLT sandwich cake) On his Instagram there's loads of photos of really amazing cakes, the decoration is phenomenal! He's even done a flower pot cake, tiered wedding cakes BUT is he classed as a pro? He doesn't sell them as a cake business, just gives them to his friends and family but The Bake Off is for amateurs. Is he too good to be true?
ANIMAL HEROS - Animal Hero Awards happened on Thursday night and I wondered if your pet won and award what would it be for? We don't all have pets that could save us if we were choking or drag us from a fire so the non-hero animal awards of Stamford and Rutland! My boyfriend's golden retriever would definitely win greediest dog! Elaine from Langham said her spaniel Sky would win waggiest tail or cheekiest pup and Bev from Belton said her black labrador Sam would win loudest bark! WOOF WOOF!
